About SYMMETRY HAIR DESIGN

SYMMETRY HAIR DESIGN was born about 10 years ago at a studio in a historic building in Downtown Kalamazoo.  The salon studio was carefully, creatively, and lovingly renovated and designed by myself, Misty Blake.  I was immediately attracted to the downtown Kalamazoo location, and the convenient parking, as well as the 'hidden beauty' of the space.  In the 10 years SYMMETRY has occupied the 536 building on East Michigan, we have seen many exciting improvements and neighbors to the downtown area, particularly on East Michigan. 

Just as our neighborhood has grown and improved, SYMMETRY HAIR DESIGN continues to evolve with new services, products, and an expanded boutique.  As I hope to eventually include new service providers in the future, I have my sights set on continually expanding services, and serving my existing customers and my community for years to come.

About Me

My name is Misty Blake.  I've been a salon professional and makeup artist for over 17 years, and a salon owner for 10.  I created SYMMETRY HAIR DESIGN to provide a setting where my clients would feel special, pampered, and inspired. 

I chose the name Symmetry for my salon because symmetry is another name for balance, and a description for beauty.  There is a special balance in beauty and in life that must be met to receive the best results.

Along with my career in the salon, I am also an educator for Matrix hair color & haircare products (including Biolage).  I enjoy sharing knowledge with my peers in the industry, and with my clients alike.. Education is a very important part of my growth in my career.  I am always seeking information and inspiration to improve my techniques.  Every year I attend as many continuing education events as possible.  Last year I attending trainings in LA, New York, Las Vegas, Chicago, Ohio, and Houston.   I am also a proud parent, volunteer, and I enjoy art/design, writing, figure skating, rollerblading, biking, camping and fishing.  I believe that actively engaging in all of these passions (and more) has played an important role in my 'symmetry' for life.
